Invicta Jazz Orchestra is Kent’s Big Band.
We play jazz classics and give modern pop and rock hits a jazzy big band sound. You can see us at outdoor gigs throughout Kent every summer - check out our upcoming gigs list for the next chance to see and hear us in action.
What do we play? We love playing Big Band Jazz classics by the likes of Glenn Miller and Count Basie, but you’ll also hear some Miles Davis and Maynard Ferguson in our set. Plus, we have some fantastic jazz arrangements of pop hits and rock classics So you might hear a Bruno Mars smash or the Theme from Rocky, while a couple of Rave classics from the early ‘90s can also make an appearance - all in our own jazz style.
The Orchestra rehearses on Thursday Evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at St Nicholas Church in Allington, Maidstone. We are currently open to new players, please email for a free trial rehearsal. invictajazzgigs@gmail.com and we will get back to you with a suitable date.
Playing Opportunities
It has been a landmark six months for IJO. Under our new Musical Director, James Brown, the orchestra has reached a new level of cohesion and musicality. To maintain this momentum, we are looking to fill a few key vacancies within the ensemble.
We are seeking musicians of any age who are looking for a disciplined rehearsal environment and a high-standard book of music. We currently have openings for:
- lead Trombone
- 2nd alto Saxophone
- Trumpet

Next Event
We will be performing near the start of the Summer Fair, starting at 12.30 pm and playing until 1.45pm. Bring picnics and prepare to have a fun family afternoon. This is a free event.
